Information interchange strengthened heap-based optimizer and its application to robot path planning

Abstract

HBO is a novel and good intelligent optimization algorithm(IOA) proposed recently, and it needs improving and applying extensively. In view of its defects such as little information interchange resulting in poor search ability, this paper proposed an improved HBO, which named information interchange strengthened HBO(ISHBO). Firstly, it used a self-interchange strategy to update the state of the best agent to improve the efficiency of HBO since the best agent didn't participate in the search process. Secondly, it presented an elite opposition interchange and an elite guiding free exchange, which broke through the shackle of the individual's communication only with its direct leader and colleagues, to improve the search ability. Finally, it integrated the two strategies to update the states of 3 random agents in HBO. A lot of experimental results on functions with diverse types and different dimensions show that compared with HBO and other state-of-the-art algorithms, the search ability of ISHBO is much stronger. Moreover, the results on IOAs' application to robot path planning also indicate that ISHBO is more competitive in solving practical optimization problems.
