Measurement method for intelligent roadside facility control effect based on traffic flow simulation

Abstract

Deploying intelligent roadside facilities is crucial for their control effect during construction, but the existing research on measuring the control effect of intelligent roadside facilities faces problems such as high costs for field measurement experiments, uncontrollable scenarios, and the absence of control strategy implantation and operation state analysis. Therefore, we propose a control effect measurement method based on traffic flow simulation using the VISSIM COM secondary development. First, we design the control scenario for the expressway and construct the scene using VISSIM. Second, we design the lane-changing control strategy algorithm and dynamic speed limit strategy algorithm, and calculate and control the lane-changing process and speed limit process. Finally, we build an evaluation model to quantify and analyze the control effect of the expressway, comparing it with other methods found in literature. The simulation results indicate that, compared to other measurement methods, our proposed method reduces speed variance by 39.51% and 25.65%, respectively. It is evident that our method can adapt to complex highway traffic environments and effectively measure the control effect of deploying intelligent roadside facilities on expressways.
