Simulink static analysis technology based on metamodel

Abstract

Current Simulink-rule-checking tools cannot fully cover the criteria and specifications of some specific fields such as flight control. To address this issue, this paper firstly designed 41 modeling criteria, then proposed a common parsing and checking framework based on the metamodel theory, and implemented a checking the Simulink model rules tool SimREG. Besides introducing a non-compiler way to static rule checking on Simulink model, SimREG extracted the model information for checking each criterion during mapping the Simulink model to the metamodel, and reconstructed the model into a directed graph. Furthermore, in the traversal process, each node in the directed graph was analyzed and processed by the selected criteria to complete the inspection process. The checking process for all 41 modeling criteria was also addressed through SimREG. Finally, in the experiment compared with 3 representative rule checking tools, SimREG obtained a preferable results. By applying metamodel theory to the rule checking process of Simulink model, SimREG gets a faster inspection speed, a lower false-negative rate, and a lower false-positive rate.
