Differential privacy protection algorithm for explicit and implicit feedback based collaborative filtering

Abstract

As collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm relies on user data, there is a great risk of privacy leakage. Differential privacy protection technology can provide strict privacy protection effects, but most recommendation algorithms based on differential privacy do not consider implicit feedback data. To solve the problem, this paper proposed a new collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm based on differential privacy protection. Firstly, it performed matrix decomposition on the implicit feedback matrix to obtain the implicit eigenvectors of users and items. Then it merged the implicit eigenvectors into the solution of explicit feedback model. The algorithm satisfied ε-differential privacy protection by adding mean perturbation and gradient perturbation to the model. Finally this paper applied this algorithm to predict the score, and evaluated the effectiveness of the algorithm on the MovieLens dataset. Experimental results show that the algorithm can achieve an effective balance between the accuracy of recommendation results and privacy protection of users.
