Research on deep face recognition based on adaptive angle loss function

Abstract

Angle space loss function is often unstable because of it needs to manually adjust the hyperparameters. The number of category labels lead to poor portability of the algorithm. To solve these problems, this paper proposed an adaptive angle space loss function with lower bound judgment and applied it to face recognition. Based on the hypothesis that the facial expression features were distributed in hypersphere space, it made the second derivative of the prediction probability formula zero by analyzing the influence of different hyperparameters on the training results. Then, it calculated the tailed median angle of the current mini-batch. In order to improve the portability of the algorithm, it inferred the lower bound of adaptive hyperparameter by the minimum expected posterior probability of the class center. By evaluating the algorithm on LFW and MegaFace datasets, the proposed method can effectively improve the accuracy of face recognition and the convergence rate of the model. Experiments on Asian-Celeb dataset show that the proposed method has better portability.
