Alzheimer’s disease classification algorithm based on DCGAN and LSTM

Abstract

Aiming to the problems that the excessive parameters of 3D model and the lack of continuous features of 2D model in existing AD classification methods, this paper proposed a brain MRI(magnetic resonance imaging) image classification algorithm which combined 2D convolutional neural networks and LSTM. By making use of the DCGAN, the convolutional layers permitted to capture image features without labels. The method firstly trained CNN by unsupervised way. Secondly, it transformed MRI image sequence into feature sequence and trained LSTM network. Finally, it combined the feature sequence and the hidden states of LSTM network to classify. The experimental results, compared with 3D model, show that the algorithm has less parameters, achieves 93.93% classification accuracy for NC(normal control) vs. AD and 86.27% for NC vs. MCI(mild cognitive impairments), respectively.
